Screen Songs 3: Free Tame Impala inspired mobile and desktop wallpaper

June 28, 2016 , In: Downloads, Screen Songs

The first time I listened to Tame Impala’s ‘Let it Happen’, I was too busy doing a hip-wiggle groove in my desk chair to pay attention to the lyrics.

It was love at first listen. The trippy sound waves washed over me, coating me in a happy haze. Then that catchy beat came along and I resigned myself to the fact that this was the song that was going to be stuck in my head all day.

I listened to this song on repeat so often, sometimes while trying not to sing the bass guitar parts aloud and scare passersby. So you would think that I would have realised (without reading an article on it) that large sections of the lyrics are not actual words, but some Kevin Parker-infused brand of gibberish. No, I did not. I thought maybe the vocals weren’t enunciated enough, or that I was doing a poor job of deciphering them.

Turns out that Mr Parker didn’t have all the lyrics sorted for ‘Let it Happen’ when Tame Impala started recording the album, so he just made up some nonsensical lines. The idea was that they’d go back and re-record the vocal part later with actual words, but that never materialised. So here we are, with a masterful song that has sections of a made-up language.

"Let it happen." One of the hit tracks from Tame Impala's Currents album has a chorus with lyrics that aim to inspire. Download the free mobile and desktop wallpaper and get your screens to motivate you every day.

Fortunately, the title of the song is in plain old English, and is quite a powerful statement at that. It made me think of a Arianna Huffington quote: “Life is a dance between making it happen and letting it happen.” In fact, the whole album (called ‘Currents’) is about personal transition and acceptance. If you’ve got the hustle part sorted, and need a reminder to let the rest play out in its own time, I’ve made a little wallpaper to help.

This is the third edition of the Wishlists and Wanderings Screen Songs series, so check back on the last Tuesday of every month for a new free wallpaper, based on motivating or inspiring lyrics.
